A Sunny Winter Day

A Sunny Winter Day

With all the snow of the past month or so, the Sun's been hiding quite a bit. It did manage to show its' face last week and I did a little plane maintenance, but I was still getting over the cold that's been going around everywhere so I didn't go fly.
Yesterday I managed to get a few chores done and still get out to the hangar to have an hour or so of flying time.
I seem to have lost my dip stick for the fuel tank and since I couldn't get any reading on the fuel indicator I added some fuel, but it only took 12 gallons to fill it to the brim, so I obviously would have been fine, but I wasn't certain.
Marty was his usual friendly hangar cat self and did his part by 'helping' me get the plane out and get it ready and making sure there weren't any small varmints in or around the plane. Although I need to watch him closer as he decided to jump up on the rear fuselage, but luckily he didn't put any claws into the fabric, though I'm sure he could if he tried.
I do have a couple more things that need fixing on the plane now. The little arm that holds the window partially open detached from one side, but the latch is still fine so I can hold it shut during flight. Additionally, the EGT seems to have stopped working, but it's not a critical instrument and the CHT seems to work alot better for keeping the mixture correct.
Flying itself was very good, though after 2 months I'm obviously a bit rusty. I made a couple of low approaches at Palouse and even setup for the small runway, but with the full intent of a go-around. I buzzed Roger and Amy's house, though it appeared they weren't home. I've always though that the train tracks near their house were essentially abandoned, but to my surprise I saw a small 3-4 car train. I made a few landings in Pullman and stopped for a minute to hang out and change the camera around. I met with Paul, a co-worker, who was just finishing up a tailwheel lesson with Doug and helped him maneuver his plane between the trucks so he could get back to his parking spot that's a ways east of the FBO. I made a low approach over Pullman and took a handful of photos. I'll have to go through those and download the video I took to see if any of it is post-worthy.
Till next time!
Happy Flying!!
