A freak exercising accident!
Well, maybe it wasn't so freak, just plain stupid. I have a total gym 1000, somewhat like the kind Chuck Norris is always hocking on TV, but a bit older version. I went to use it this morning to get some exercise after having been out of the fitness game for a few months.
I failed to completely screw down the pin that locks the inclined bar to the vertical post. It seemed to hold with my weight, but once I pulled on the handles to slide myself forward, it gave up.
This sent me plummeting a whole 2 feet to the floor onto my butt, but more unfortunately, the center post came forward and nailed me squarely on the right cheek.
At first I thought I had caved in my face and was probably going to be passing out soon, but cerebrally it appears I suffered nothing more than a minor headache. I have no lost memories, though there's a span of about 30 seconds of idiocy that I wish I would have forgotten...I guess that wouldn't make the pain. :-/
That's more than I can say for my face, however. I seem to have shifted over a few of my teeth and just slightly chipped one of my front teeth. My upper jaw still hurts considerably on the right side because all the teeth are jammed together and my face is quite bruised up. My right eye is swollen about 1/3 of the way shut and the marks look pretty red on my face so I imagine I broke a fairly sizable blood vessel and will have quite a 'shiner'.
I am thankful that I managed to keep all my teeth so far and don't appear to have damaged my eye at all. I guess my devilish good looks are out the window now, but I wasn't really using them anyway ;)
I will probably be able to go to work tomorrow, and if I decide to go in costume, I'm already half way to 'Rocky' without a whole lot of help :)
Guess this means I definitely have to see the dentist now!
